The Music of What Happens

Annie Coyle Martin

Annie Coyle Martin has been inventing stories for more than 50 years. She was born and raised in rural Ireland, where her parents were country schoolteachers, and came to Canada in 1957. She lived in Newfoundland, working as a nurse, and moved to Ontario while raising her children. She joined the Ontario Public Service in 1991 and moved into health administration.

On a visit to Ireland in the early 1990s she listened to stories told by her aunts and began to write about the village where she had grown up. In 1999, she retired to write her first novel, The Music of What Happens, woven out of those stories. She has previously been published in She's Gonna Be (McGilligan, 1998). Annie Coyle Martin is currently working on a sequel to The Music of What Happens.
