Michael Decter

Harvard-trained economist Michael Decter is Chair of the Canada Health Council. Formerly chair of the Canadian Institute for Health Information and managing director for Canada of APM Inc., Michael is currently an investment broker with Lawrence Decter Associates. In addition to books on the future of health care – Healing Medicare and Four Strong Winds – Michael has written several books on personal investment.

In 1982, Michael was appointed Cabinet Secretary to the Government of Manitoba and began a long career as advisor to governments. Ten years later, as Deputy Minister of Health for the Province of Ontario, he focussed his work on maintaining an affordable and accessible health care system for Canadians. Since that time he has lectured and published widely on health care reform in Canada and internationally, participating in both the King's Fund International Seminar and the Four Country Conferences, 1995-1998. He continues as an advocate for accessible and affordable public health care.
