Ruth Mandel

Award-winning poet Ruth Mandel published her first collection, How To Tell Your Children About the Holocaust, in November 2003. In May 2004, How To Tell Your Children About the Holocaust received the Isaac Frishwasser Memorial Award for Holocaust Literature from the Canadian Jewish Book Awards Committee.

A fabric artist, poet, businesswoman, and daughter of a holocaust survivor, Ruth Mandel wrote How To Tell Your Children About the Holocaust over a ten-year period. Ruth Mandel has published her poems in the anthologies and journals including Vintage 97/98, She's Gonna Be, Parchment, The Antigonish Review, The Fiddlehead, Prairie Fire, Canadian Woman Studies and Contemporary Verse 2. Her poetry can be found on websites such as Taddle Creek Magazine and Women and the Holocaust – A Cyberspace of Their Own.

Ruth has read at numerous events, including Let Memory Speak – The Legacy international conference for child holocaust survivors in Montreal, the Ashkenaz Festival at Harbourfront, and A Tribute To Courage exhibition at the Kanner Heritage Museum. In 2004, Ruth Mandel has visited Edmonton, Montreal and Kingston to read from the book and conduct holocaust and human rights education. She lives in Toronto with her husband and family.
