Where Rivers Join

Sharron Proulx-Turner

Sharron Proulx-Turner is a Métis writer raised in the Ottawa River valley. She holds a Masters in English from the University of Calgary and has taught writing and literature at University of Calgary, Old Sun College and Mount Royal College in Alberta.

A previously published memoir of abuse –Where Rivers Join–was short-listed for the Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction. Sharron's work has been widely anthologized in Crisp Blue Edges: Indigenous Creative Non-fiction, My Home As I Remember, Writing the Land and elsewhere.

From Mohawk, Algonquin, Huron, Ojibwe, Micmaw, French and Irish ancestry, Sharron has written that "In my communities, writing is a sacred gift. As such, writing creates a knowing inside beauty. The beauty is felt from the words for the reader. For the writer, the beauty is between the spirit world and the work. The reader senses and feels the beauty because the spirit world exists inside, within what's being told, and the spirit world comes alive through voice. I am an active promoter of writing as a means to healing, particularly for young people."

She currently lives in Calgary. Her two children, Graham and Barb, are now young adults.
