Sousan Mehr

Sousan Mehr studied languages in Iran and France. In 1983, she was a 25-year-old teacher when she was arrested and confined in the Iranian political prison, Evin. Sousan loves to write poems, and literature has always been a main part of her life. However, in prison she rarely had a pen and paper to write, as it was not allowed.

Sousan remained in prison for about five years. After her release, she was forbidden to leave the country for another 12 years. She married and continued to teach and write. She has written poems and short stories that she plans to publish.

We Lived to Tell is Sousan’s first published work. By writing and publishing her memoirs, she hopes to portray the life and times of her generation for her child.

Currently, Sousan Mehr lives in Canada.
